Hi neighbors — the City of Citrus Heights August 2026 newsletter has been refreshed on the Birdcage Heights City News page.
This month’s update includes several notable community projects, events, funding opportunities, and City updates, including:
▫️ Citrus Nights returns August 21 — a free evening at Van Maren Park with live R&B music, food trucks, and family-friendly activities, with another event planned for September 18
▫️ Planning Commission vacancy — Citrus Heights residents can apply to serve on the commission and participate in decisions involving development, land use, and long-term planning
▫️ Antelope Road resurfacing — the final resurfacing layer is complete, with striping and additional roadway improvements continuing through August
▫️ Arcade-Cripple Creek Trail expansion — a community workshop on August 18 will cover the proposed half-mile Mariposa Extension, including new trail connections, creek crossings, lighting, and accessibility improvements
▫️ $150,000 available for local nonprofits — qualifying organizations serving Citrus Heights residents can apply for funding through the City’s Non-Profit Community Support Fund
▫️ Silver Wishes supporting local seniors — the nonprofit continues accepting wish nominations while seeking volunteers, community partners, and supporters
▫️ Sunrise Sports Center moves forward — a property agreement has been reached for approximately 13 acres at Sunrise Mall, advancing plans for the sports facility as part of the larger mall redevelopment
The August newsletter also includes information on transportation planning, temporary sign rules, upcoming City Council meetings, community events, City job openings, extreme-heat cooling resources, and other local updates.
It’s a useful snapshot of what’s happening around Citrus Heights and several opportunities for residents and community organizations to participate.

The August 12 Citrus Heights City Council agenda is now live on BirdcageHeights.com.
This meeting includes several city operations, public safety, infrastructure, and regional-government items that may be of interest to Citrus Heights residents, including:
▫️ 2026 Fireworks Enforcement Update — the City Council will receive an update on fireworks enforcement activity from this year’s Independence Day period
▫️ Tyler Munis ERP Implementation — the Administrative Services Department will provide an update on the City’s implementation of its new enterprise resource planning system
▫️ Madison Avenue Overlay Project — the Council will consider a cost-sharing agreement with Sacramento County for the 2025 Phase A asphalt overlay project
▫️ Public Construction Contracting Rules — Council will consider joining California’s Uniform Public Construction Cost Accounting Act program and introducing related changes to the Citrus Heights Municipal Code
▫️ Quarterly Treasurer’s Report — the Council is scheduled to receive the City’s financial report for the quarter ending June 30, 2026
▫️ Cal Cities Annual Conference — Council will select Citrus Heights’ voting delegate and alternates for the League of California Cities Annual Business Meeting in September
▫️ Councilmember Parental Leave — the consent calendar includes authorization for Councilmember Kelsey Nelson to be absent from meetings during August, September, and October while on parental leave
