ⓘ The Stalin’s Apostles: The Cambridge Five and the Making of the Soviet Empire presents an unflinching reassessment of one of the 20th century’s most infamous spy rings and the human cost of its work for Stalin’s Soviet Union.
Author Antonia Senior examines the story of Kim Philby, Guy Burgess, Donald Maclean, Anthony Blunt, and John Cairncross, better known as the Cambridge Five. From the 1930s through 1951, the group passed highly classified British information to the Soviet Union, becoming some of the most notorious intelligence figures of the modern era.
Drawing on material from recently declassified files, Senior looks beyond the familiar image of sophisticated establishment outsiders to explore the consequences of their espionage, including its impact on people resisting Soviet domination. The one-hour talk is free to watch online via Vimeo, with a pay-what-you-can option. Registration provides the viewing link by email, and a Vimeo account is not required.
