🎨 SMS Teen: Brush-N-Munch — Creativity, Dinner & Connection
A creative evening where teens ages 12–17 can paint, enjoy dinner, meet new friends, and spend time in a positive and welcoming environment.
Single Mom Strong invites teens ages 12–17 to get creative at SMS Teen: Brush-N-Munch, a free evening of painting, dinner, conversation, and connection. Teens can create their own painted masterpiece to take home while spending time with friends and meeting new people in a safe and welcoming environment.
The evening is designed to give teens space to relax, express themselves, and build confidence without feeling like they are attending another class or after-school program. Adult staff will be on-site throughout the event, and dinner is provided.
SMS Teen is a monthly program created by Single Mom Strong to provide young people with opportunities for friendship, belonging, creativity, and positive connection. Although the program was created by Single Mom Strong, youth from all family types between ages 12 and 17 are welcome to participate.

SMS Teen was created to give teenagers a comfortable place to connect with peers, have fun, and build a stronger sense of belonging as they navigate growing independence and new challenges.
The program is presented in partnership with the City of Sacramento’s #SactownYouthNights initiative. Future SMS Teen events are expected to continue evolving with input from participating teens themselves.

SMS Teen, in partnership with the City of Sacramento's SacTown Youth Nights, is coming soon.
This is a natural next step in our work. We’re creating consistent, welcoming spaces for ages 12–18 with fun, learning, movement, creativity, and leadership built in, all grounded in safety and belonging.
We’ve seen what’s possible when young people have structure and trusted relationships through programs like EmpowerME Preschool & Childcare and our Men's Mentoring Team. Now we’re extending that foundation into the teen years. STAY TUNED FOR DETAILS!

Men's Mentoring Team
Single Mom Strong’s Men’s Mentoring Program creates sustained, healthy relationships between caring, positive male role models and school-aged children of single moms. Mentors are screened, trained and supported to meet regularly and consistently with mentees, for about 2.5 hours each month, throughout the school year. At these events, the children are exposed to new ideas and activities, but, most importantly, they are given an example of a man who will consistently show up for them.

About the Guild Theater Tap to expand
The Guild Theater, located at 2828 35th Street in Sacramento's historic Oak Park neighborhood, has been a cultural landmark since its original opening in 1915. Designed and financed by Joseph Lewis, it was the largest of three theaters on 35th Street at the time.
Over the years, the theater has undergone several transformations, including periods as the Oak Park Theater, Victor Theater, and New Oak Park Theater. In 1952, it reopened as the Guild Theater, featuring a modern marquee and seating for 467 patrons. After a phase of decline and vacancy, the theater was revitalized and is now managed by St. HOPE, a nonprofit organization dedicated to community development through public education, civic leadership, economic growth, and the arts.
Founded in 1989 by former Mayor, NBA star and Oak Park resident Kevin Johnson, the St. HOPE organization accepted the challenge of restoring the Guild Theater after it had been vacant for many years, finishing the full restoration in 2003.
The Guild Theater in Sacramento is a cherished cultural venue that has long played a significant role in the local arts scene.

About Nimbus Dam Tap to expand
Nimbus Dam is located on the American River in Fair Oaks, California, and plays a key role in controlling water flow from Folsom Dam downstream to the Sacramento area. The dam was constructed in 1955 by the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation and is part of the Central Valley Project.

The Guild Theater, located at 2828 35th Street in Sacramento's historic Oak Park neighborhood, has been a cultural landmark since its original opening in 1915. Designed and financed by Joseph Lewis, it was the largest of three theaters on 35th Street at the time.
Over the years, the theater has undergone several transformations, including periods as the Oak Park Theater, Victor Theater, and New Oak Park Theater. In 1952, it reopened as the Guild Theater, featuring a modern marquee and seating for 467 patrons. After a phase of decline and vacancy, the theater was revitalized and is now managed by St. HOPE, a nonprofit organization dedicated to community development through public education, civic leadership, economic growth, and the arts.
Founded in 1989 by former Mayor, NBA star and Oak Park resident Kevin Johnson, the St. HOPE organization accepted the challenge of restoring the Guild Theater after it had been vacant for many years, finishing the full restoration in 2003.

A Quick Bit of History
Before an official branch existed, local residents relied on a small contract station on 44th Street. South Sacramento’s first official library opened on April 1, 1952, at 6225 Franklin Boulevard with 3,000 books in a modest shared space. In 1962, it moved into the Southgate Shopping Center on Florin Road and became known as Southgate Library. With federal funding secured, the current 12,000 sq ft building opened at 6132 66th Avenue in August 1975, designed by architect Alan Oshima. Renovations in 2000 and 2011 refreshed public spaces and revitalized the children’s area—making 2025 a proud milestone: 50 years of connection, learning, and community.

The Guild Theater, located at 2828 35th Street in Sacramento's historic Oak Park neighborhood, has been a cultural landmark since its original opening in 1915. Designed and financed by Joseph Lewis, it was the largest of three theaters on 35th Street at the time.
Over the years, the theater has undergone several transformations, including periods as the Oak Park Theater, Victor Theater, and New Oak Park Theater. In 1952, it reopened as the Guild Theater, featuring a modern marquee and seating for 467 patrons. After a phase of decline and vacancy, the theater was revitalized and is now managed by St. HOPE, a nonprofit organization dedicated to community development through public education, civic leadership, economic growth, and the arts.
Founded in 1989 by former Mayor, NBA star and Oak Park resident Kevin Johnson, the St. HOPE organization accepted the challenge of restoring the Guild Theater after it had been vacant for many years, finishing the full restoration in 2003.
The Guild Theater in Sacramento is a cherished cultural venue that has long played a significant role in the local arts scene.
