About The Southgate Library Tap to expand

Serving South Sacramento with welcoming spaces and practical resources, Southgate Library is a neighborhood hub for reading, technology access, community learning, and family-friendly programs. Itโs also home to the systemโs largest Vietnamese language collection, supporting one of the areaโs most vibrant multilingual communities.
A Quick Bit of History
Before an official branch existed, local residents relied on a small contract station on 44th Street. South Sacramentoโs first official library opened on April 1, 1952, at 6225 Franklin Boulevard with 3,000 books in a modest shared space. In 1962, it moved into the Southgate Shopping Center on Florin Road and became known as Southgate Library. With federal funding secured, the current 12,000 sq ft building opened at 6132 66th Avenue in August 1975, designed by architect Alan Oshima. Renovations in 2000 and 2011 refreshed public spaces and revitalized the childrenโs areaโmaking 2025 a proud milestone: 50 years of connection, learning, and community.

About the Guild Theater Tap to expand
The Guild Theater, located at 2828 35th Street in Sacramento's historic Oak Park neighborhood, has been a cultural landmark since its original opening in 1915. Designed and financed by Joseph Lewis, it was the largest of three theaters on 35th Street at the time.
Over the years, the theater has undergone several transformations, including periods as the Oak Park Theater, Victor Theater, and New Oak Park Theater. In 1952, it reopened as the Guild Theater, featuring a modern marquee and seating for 467 patrons. After a phase of decline and vacancy, the theater was revitalized and is now managed by St. HOPE, a nonprofit organization dedicated to community development through public education, civic leadership, economic growth, and the arts.
Founded in 1989 by former Mayor, NBA star and Oak Park resident Kevin Johnson, the St. HOPE organization accepted the challenge of restoring the Guild Theater after it had been vacant for many years, finishing the full restoration in 2003.
The Guild Theater in Sacramento is a cherished cultural venue that has long played a significant role in the local arts scene.
Historic Charm & Modern Vibe: Originally established as a community gathering place, the Guild Theater has maintained its historic character while evolving with modern updates. Its blend of classic architecture and contemporary amenities creates an intimate setting that enhances every performance.
Events: The theater is known for hosting a wide variety of eventsโfrom live theatrical productions and musical performances to film screenings and special community events.
Community-Focused Mission: More than just a performance space, the Guild Theater is dedicated to fostering local talent and engaging the community.
Accessibility & Atmosphere: Located in a lively part of the city, the theater is easily accessible to residents and visitors alike.
Today, the Guild Theater serves as a vibrant hub for performing arts and cinema, hosting a diverse array of events.
The Guild Theater offers a unique and intimate setting that continues to enrich Sacramentoโs cultural landscape.

The Boater Hat Tap to expand
Flat-top confidence since 1870 โ Timeless. Weightless. Fearless.
Boater Hat: From River Regatta to Runway Classic
(1870 โ 1930s)
Born on the rivers of England and France, the stiff-brimmed straw hat kept oarsmen cool under the sun. Its flat crown made it easy to stack or stow between races.

Adopted for summer outings, cycling, and seaside trips. Men paired it with striped blazers; women with shirtwaists and long skirts.

A mark of collegiate charm and barbershop harmony. In the U.S., โStraw Hat Dayโ celebrated its annual debut each May.

The boater crowns everyone from silent-film crowds to jazz-age partygoers. Light, crisp, modern โ a uniform for summer modernity.

As felt fedoras took over, the boater lingered in uniforms, gondoliers, and nostalgic fashion โ forever linked to early-20th-century elegance.

Process-Based Art Tap to expand
๐จ Process-Based Art: Create โข Explore โข Discover
Process-based art centers the act of making over a polished end product. It invites experimentation, play, and spontaneityโletting you explore materials, techniques, and movement without a fixed outcome. The goal is the journey of creating: try, layer, react, repeat.
Key Characteristics
- Process first โ outcome is secondary to exploration.
- Freedom from rigid rules โ embrace happy accidents.
- Mix & layer media โ paint, ink, collage, fabric, found objects.
- Follow intuition โ gesture, rhythm, and movement guide the work.
- Personal & expressive โ process becomes a record of thought and feeling.
Why Artists Love It
Reduces perfection pressure, builds creative confidence, and sparks original ideas through playful iteration.
Why Educators Use It
Supports multiple ages and abilities, encourages risk-taking, and builds reflection skills (what worked, what changed, whatโs next).
Why Itโs โMessyโ
Layering, gluing, scraping, splatteringโmaterials in motion. The โmessโ is part of the magic and the documentation of process.
Quick Tips
- Start with loose marks (no erasingโrespond instead).
- Layer three+ materials (e.g., watercolor + ink + collage).
- Set a time limit to stay playful, not precious.
- Pause, rotate, and reactโlet the piece tell you whatโs next.
Influences & exemplars: Jackson Pollock (action painting), Eva Hesse (material/structural experimentation), Lynda Benglis (poured, textured media). Today, this approach thrives in contemporary studios, art therapy, and education.

Citrus Heights Police Activities League โ CH PAL Golf Tournament
A community golf fundraiser supporting local youth programs
The 3rd Annual CH PAL Golf Tournament returns this fall for another exciting day on the course in support of youth programs and community engagement throughout Citrus Heights. After an incredible turnout last year, organizers are looking forward to making this yearโs event even bigger and better for golfers, sponsors, and supporters alike.
Hosted by the Citrus Heights Police Activities League, the tournament brings together community members, local partners, and golf enthusiasts for a day that blends friendly competition, connection, and giving back. Registration details and early sign-ups will be announced later this summer, with the official registration link shared as soon as it becomes available. Last yearโs tournament nearly sold out โ and the goal this year is to fill the course once again while continuing to support programs that make a real impact in the community.
