About the Guild Theater Tap to expand
The Guild Theater, located at 2828 35th Street in Sacramento's historic Oak Park neighborhood, has been a cultural landmark since its original opening in 1915. Designed and financed by Joseph Lewis, it was the largest of three theaters on 35th Street at the time.
Over the years, the theater has undergone several transformations, including periods as the Oak Park Theater, Victor Theater, and New Oak Park Theater. In 1952, it reopened as the Guild Theater, featuring a modern marquee and seating for 467 patrons. After a phase of decline and vacancy, the theater was revitalized and is now managed by St. HOPE, a nonprofit organization dedicated to community development through public education, civic leadership, economic growth, and the arts.
Founded in 1989 by former Mayor, NBA star and Oak Park resident Kevin Johnson, the St. HOPE organization accepted the challenge of restoring the Guild Theater after it had been vacant for many years, finishing the full restoration in 2003.
The Guild Theater in Sacramento is a cherished cultural venue that has long played a significant role in the local arts scene.
Historic Charm & Modern Vibe: Originally established as a community gathering place, the Guild Theater has maintained its historic character while evolving with modern updates. Its blend of classic architecture and contemporary amenities creates an intimate setting that enhances every performance.
Events: The theater is known for hosting a wide variety of events—from live theatrical productions and musical performances to film screenings and special community events.
Community-Focused Mission: More than just a performance space, the Guild Theater is dedicated to fostering local talent and engaging the community.
Accessibility & Atmosphere: Located in a lively part of the city, the theater is easily accessible to residents and visitors alike.
Today, the Guild Theater serves as a vibrant hub for performing arts and cinema, hosting a diverse array of events.

It focuses on locals in Citrus Heights and adjacent areas, partnering with diverse community members from business, schools, faith communities, and government to support those breaking the cycle of poverty.
Key Programs: Winter Sanctuary, Veteran's Standdown, Homeless Navigator (connecting individuals with resources), Housing Programs, Spaghetti Fest, Rental Assistance, and educational events to highlight poverty factors.

About Citrus Heights HART
About the Work of Citrus Heights HART
Mission: Citrus Heights HART provides resources that enable at-risk people and individuals experiencing homelessness in Citrus Heights and adjacent areas to become independent, self-sustaining, and participating members of the community. The organization serves the homeless of Citrus Heights by helping locals develop stable living situations through connections to needed resources, such as a homeless navigator or winter shelter.
Vision: To end homelessness in local communities, including Citrus Heights, by maximizing citizens' bargaining power and flexibility through formalized yet open-ended groups that address the complex problem of homelessness.
History: Citrus Heights HART is one of three HART organizations in outlying areas of Sacramento County, alongside those in Elk Grove and Rancho Cordova. Each formed in response to the lack of decentralized access to homeless services. Many founding members began at soup kitchens or food banks. After learning from homeless individuals about service access difficulties, community members brainstormed solutions. The formalized yet open-ended group structure was chosen for its legitimacy and creativity in tackling homelessness.
Core Values:
- Volunteer Generosity: Reliance on volunteer generosity to donate time and resources towards ending homelessness.
- Community Partnerships: Partnership with local churches, government agencies, nonprofits, businesses, schools, faith communities, and city government to provide services and support for breaking the cycle of poverty.
- Resource Connection: Focus on connecting homeless individuals with available resources and shedding light on underlying factors affecting poverty.
- Education and Awareness: Emphasis on education through events about available services.
Leadership: Citrus Heights HART is led by a dedicated volunteer board including:
- Irene Hronicek: Board Chair, Winter Sanctuary & Rental Assistance Committee Chair (Holy Family Church)
- Kathilynn Carpenter: Treasurer, Spaghetti Fest & Rental Assistance Committee (Sunrise MarketPlace PBID)
- Margaret Cleek: Secretary (Citrus Heights Resident)
- Diane Ebbitt: Spaghetti Feed Committee (Citrus Heights Resident)
- Denise Hinkson: Winter Sanctuary Committee (Starbucks)
- Katherine McBride: Volunteer
- Marcy Phipps: Rental Assistance Committee (Dignity Health)
- Mike Nishimura: Rental Assistance Committee (Volunteer)
- Auriel Taurone: PRIDE Industries
- Wouter Boudrez: Laundry Love
Inclusivity: Citrus Heights HART serves people who may be sleeping on the streets, in cars, or couch surfing, regardless of how long they've been homeless—from a week to ten years.
Citrus Heights HART is a volunteer-run organization united with sister groups in Elk Grove and Rancho Cordova under hartstogether.org.

Know Before You Go — FAQs Tap to expand
Quick answers to common questions about the Chip Chip Hooray! free microchipping event.
Who can participate?
This event is intended for Citrus Heights residents. Please bring proof of residency (such as a driver’s license or utility bill) so staff can verify you live within city limits.
Which pets are eligible?
Dogs and cats are welcome. Pets should be healthy enough for a brief handling and microchip injection. Very young, sick, or medically fragile animals should be cleared by your veterinarian first.
Is microchipping really free?
Yes — microchipping itself is free at this event. Licensing fees may still apply depending on your pet’s status (spayed/neutered, senior, multi-year license, etc.). City staff can go over your specific licensing cost on-site.
What should I bring?
- Proof of Citrus Heights residency
- Your pet’s current rabies certificate (for licensing)
- A photo ID
- Any previous license information, if you have it
How should I handle my pet at the event?
- Dogs: Must be on a secure leash (no retractable leashes preferred).
- Cats: Must be in a sturdy, well-ventilated carrier.
- Consider bringing a second person if your pet is nervous in new environments.
How long does microchipping take?
The chip is injected under the skin between your pet’s shoulder blades using a small needle. The actual placement is quick — usually less than a minute — but plan a few extra minutes for check-in and paperwork.
Will my pet be in a database?
Yes. Staff will register your pet’s microchip with your contact information so that if your pet is found and scanned, you can be contacted quickly. Be sure to keep your contact details current with the microchip company and the city.
Do I have to license my pet at the same time?
You can get help with licensing on-site. If your pet is not currently licensed, or is due for renewal, this is a convenient chance to update everything in one visit.
What if my pet is already microchipped?
Staff can often help you look up or verify an existing chip and make sure your information is current, even if the chip was placed elsewhere.
Who is hosting this event?
The event is hosted by Chip Chip Hooray! in partnership with Citrus Heights Animal Services, as part of the city’s effort to keep local pets safe and reunited with their families.
