HART of Folsom’s Mission: HART of Folsom is a non-profit, community-based organization dedicated to assisting individuals experiencing homelessness in Folsom toward self-sufficiency and greater independence. The organization connects people to essential services that guide them on their path to a better life, supported by seven transitional housing units and robust case management to help reduce homelessness annually.

History: Founded in 2016 in response to the City of Folsom’s call for help with winter sheltering, HART of Folsom launched Folsom’s first winter shelter in 2017. As part of a regional network of 10 grassroots HART organizations in the Sacramento area, it operates as a volunteer-led nonprofit powered by community members, faith groups, and local partners all dedicated to serving unhoused neighbors.

Core Values:

  • Compassionate Service: Serve with compassion, patience, and understanding—creating spaces where people feel seen and valued.
  • Respect and Dignity: Treat every person with respect and honor their inherent worth, regardless of circumstance.
  • Consistent Support: Walk alongside unhoused neighbors with consistent care and access to vital services for long-term independence.
  • Welcoming Environments: Create safe, welcoming environments free from judgment, meeting people where they are.
  • Empowerment: Empower through personal responsibility, hard work, and innovative solutions to complex needs.
  • Heartfelt Action: Act with heart, listening and responding with genuine concern to drive meaningful change.

Leadership: HART of Folsom is led by President Liz Ekenstedt, supported by a dedicated board including Secretary Bev Siess, Treasurer Linda Sweet, and members Creta Adams, Lilli Duval, Eric Gifford, Vijay Bhaskar Jonnalagadda, and Executive Assistant Janie Kypta.

HART of Folsom is committed to inclusivity and does not discriminate based on race, color, religion, gender, age, national origin, disability, marital status, sexual orientation, or military status in any of its activities.
